OTNA welcomes two new members
Cafe’ 44 and the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra recently joined the Old Town North Alliance. We are delighted to call them members.
Cafe’ 44 is a neighborhood favorite for lunch, dinner, brunch, and special events. They are located at 44 Canal Center, and have a beautiful balcony and terrace with views of the Potomac River, Old Town, and Washington DC. They are known for their menu which features such items as garden truffle flatbread and for their fun and intriguing cocktails like Cabin in the Woods and I'm Your Huckleberry. Cafe’ 44 is open 11:30 am to 10:00 pm Tuesday through Friday, 9 am to 10 pm Saturday, and 9 am to 5 pm on Sunday. There's also a Happy Hour 3 to 6 pm Tuesday through Saturday. Items on the spring menu include Black Cod, Spring Tortellini, Shrimp Ceviche, and the always popular, Potomac Peach Salad. For more information, including full menus, go to https://Cafe’44.com/.
The Alexandria Symphony Orchestra (ASO) has its office at 700 N. Fairfax Street and prior to COVID-19 offered performances at the Schlesinger Center at the Northern Virginia Community College campus in Alexandria and at the George Washington Masonic Temple. Last year they started offering special concerts in smaller venues, including a lovely Beethoven and Tango concert held in the garden of the Rectory on Princess Street. ASO is seeking additional opportunities to hold concerts in neighborhoods until larger performance spaces become available.
The ASO has been in existence since the 1960s and became a professional orchestra in the 1990s. Many Alexandrians have heard the orchestra perform at the annual City Birthday concert in Oronoco Bay Park. The ASO is committed to education offering performance opportunities and scholarships for young people. Most recently ASO launched Sympatico, a before and after-school music program at John Adams Elementary School and Patrick Henry K-8 (Alexandria City Public Schools) underwritten by the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra.
We look forward to a resumption of programming later this year. Current information is available at https://alexsym.org/
