Neighborhood Classic Expands Its Repertoire

The Royal Restaurant (and Caterers) at 730 N. St. Asaph Street is very much a local family-owned business that is maintaining its strong ties to the family's Greek heritage and has a long history in Alexandria. The Euripides family, owners of the restaurant, have recently started innovating, hiring Louis Matsikas as the restaurant's new Special Events Manager, and Roman Roberts, formerly of Georgia Brown's as new Executive Chef. The Royal has embraced the Farm to Table movement, and is sourcing from local farms and suppliers including Old Town North business community member MAS Seafood Market.

The Royal is participating in Alexandria Restaurant Week, being held this year from January 21 to 30, offering a $35 dinner for two, eat-in or carry-out.

One of the restaurant's new ventures is hosting monthly "Artist in Residence" evenings. The restaurant provides space for an artist to display their work on a Tuesday evening, and the Royal and the artist invite 59 guests to enjoy complimentary appetizers and drinks while viewing the artist's work. The artist gives the Royal 10% of any sales, and those funds are then redirected to buy supplies for young artists.

Artist in Residence at Royal -- Len Garon

Recent "Artists in Residence" have included Len Garon, a fixture at the Saturday Market in Alexandria's Market Square, and Christine Youngbluth. On February 16, 2022 from 6 to 8 pm, Hannah Lincoln will be the featured artist.
