'Bus Barn' Demolition Starts for Residential Development

The bus garage at 600 N. Royal Street was built in 1945 for the A. B. & W. bus company that preceded WMATA.  It had steel columns, a concrete floor, and a metal deck roof on steel trusses.  It housed buses until the mid 2010's, when a new facility was inaugurated on Cinder Bed Road in Fairfax County.  After a public bid process, Trammel Crow Residential won the rights to the property, and received approval in 2018 from the City of Alexandria for multi-family apartments, in line with the Old Town North Small Area Plan adopted in 2017.

Demolition began in January 2020. Click here to see the article from “Alexandria Living,” that includes a photo submitted by Old Town North Alliance.
