Super Stats at Visit Alexandria Annual Meeting

On the same day as its annual meeting, Visit Alexandria was named the #3 “Best Small City in the US” by the 2023 Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards (https://youtu.be/j83FiTwIWmU). Charleston, SC was named #1 and Santa Fe, New Mexico #2.

At the meeting, Mayor Justin Wilson announced that Alexandria has successfully returned to pre-COVID consumption levels. Last year's theme, "Breaking Through and Building Connections," guided the city's goals of raising awareness, building reputation, and increasing revenue. Notable accomplishments comprised record online impressions, accolades from major travel publications, and substantial revenue growth.

Visit Alexandria (www.visitAlexandria.com) reported that, despite a modest tourism budget of $4.5 million in comparison to other top cities, Alexandria experienced a remarkable 72% increase in broadcast TV coverage. Visitor revenue for 2022 exceeded predictions from the Virginia economic assessment, and business meetings saw a notable 22% increase. Major campaigns, such as "Best Kept Secret Ssh" and "Expand Your ALX," played pivotal roles in the city's success. The "Love Alexandria" hotel promotion resulted in 7,600 referrals, and the Portside Festival grew to an impressive 23,000 attendees.

Looking ahead, the program outlined key focuses for the coming year, including a shift to digital video, managing price sensitivity, sustainability, and accessibility measures. Plans for FY24 involve commemorating the 275th birthday of Alexandria and the 250th of the USA. The utilization of data analytics and PR strategies was emphasized, with Visit Alexandria attributing its success to its dedicated staff.

To engage audiences, Visit Alexandria introduced ExpandYourALX.com, new Instagram reels, and video content highlighting locations connected to VA's black history. Additionally, there are plans for a tour of Old Town hosted by influencers, showcasing the city's rich heritage and vibrant community.

The Old Town North Alliance is delighted to be a member of Visit Alexandria, and to be again hosting an event at an alternate viewing area for the Boat Parade on Saturday, December 2, 2023. Watch this space for more details!
