Sports and Fitness Studios Provide Wellness Options in Old Town North
As Old Town North continues to evolve and grow, many of the local health and wellness businesses and activities grow as well.
In 2009, after 10 years working as a personal trainer and coach in different locations throughout the area, Jerry Hill opened CrossFit Old Town North at 805 North Royal Street in the Montgomery Center. His business was an immediate success but as Jerry continued to work with clients he became curious about how to help them avoid repetitive use injuries and began to explore more thoughtful approaches to strength and conditioning. He discovered GOATA and created a 30-minute intense movement workout based on those principles.
The business is now known as The 805 Old Town Strength and Conditioning. For Jerry, fitness is his passion and he wants to “teach others to know gratification from their fitness.“ Jerry and his crew offer classes throughout the week and invite you to experience the good vibes at 805.
Old Town North is also home to Row House at 917 N. St Asaph Street, a “boutique fitness studio first started in New York City, and Wheel Nuts Bike Shop at 302 Montgomery Street.
Wheel Nuts has been a fixture in Old Town North for over 23 years, drawing a devoted following of both recreational and serious cyclists from around the region. Owner Ron Taylor and his team of experienced bike mechanics provide guidance on bike gear, keep bikes in perfect repair along with giving directions to cyclists heading onto or coming off the Mt Vernon Bike Trail or heading out to explore historic Alexandria.
Next week we will learn more about the Wednesday Running Club, Alexandria Pilates Collective, Row House, yoga, and the history and philosophy of Wheel Nuts Bike Shop.
