OTNA’s Chalk Walk Returns, and Other October Events

 

Old Town North becomes an outdoor artist’s studio during the Second Annual Chalk Walk on Saturday, October 21 from 10am to 4pm. You’re invited to attend this family-friendly event. Start at Canal Center, then follow the map around Old Town North, observing artists in action creating fabulous chalk art on walls, sidewalks and parking spaces. Food and beverages will be available at Canal Center, and there will be activities for children. Free parking on nearby streets and at Canal Center. Attendance is free!

  • Seascape Watercoloring Class: Wednesday, October 4, 6-8pm. Embark on a captivating watercolor journey with Marcella Kriebel, a skilled watercolorist and renowned food illustrator.   • Civil War Prisons in Alexandria: Friday, October 13, 6pm, Lee-Fendall House. Madeline Feierstein will discuss her research on the five military prisons of Alexandria during the Civil War. $10, visit https://leefendallhouse.org/events/

  • Archaeology on the Waterfront: Saturday, October 14, noon-4pm, 7 Pioneer Mill Way. Celebrate Virginia Archaeology Month with Robinson Landing and Alexandria Archaeology! Archaeologists excavated a full city block ahead of the construction of Robinson Landing. Learn what used to be at the site, including Hooe’s 18th century warehouse and store, the 19th century steam-powered Pioneer Mill, and the remnants of three merchant ships. Explore the area as a family with a self-guided scavenger hunt or register in advance to take a free guided tour of the waterfront with an archaeologist.   • Paws in the Park: Sunday, October 15, 11am - 4pm, Oronoco Bay Park. Paws in the Park benefits the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria and its mission to inspire compassion for all living things, to provide shelter to animals in need, and to promote adoptions, animal welfare and responsible pet ownerships in our community.   • Beyond the Battlefield: Saturday, October 21, 10am, Lee-Fendall House. A Civil War walking tour shares the stories of soldiers, citizens, and self-liberated African Americans in Civil War Alexandria. Limited to 12 participants. $15, visit https://leefendallhouse.org/events/
