With all the holiday excitement over, are you wondering what to do with your kids, or yourself, on these cold winter days? Do you need ideas for a school project or unique Valentine’s Day gifts? Made in ALX may have just the solution you need.

Located at 533 Montgomery Street, with FREE parking one block north in the garage at 530 First Street, Made in ALX features works from more than 50 talented artists, creators and makers in Alexandria, plus it offers a plethora of workshops and a location for birthday parties and other events.

Coming soon to this location near you are:

  • Saturday, January 27: FREE Kid Crafts - Bring your kids age 2-12 in anytime between 10am and 1pm and they’ll do a free craft containing zero glitter

  • Sunday, January 28: Intro to Calligraphy with Jenny Paxton at 1pm - In this 3-hour workshop, you’ll learn the basics of calligraphy and leave with materials to continue practicing your new craft at home. $175

  • Sunday, February 4: Live Miniature Paintings with Kellie Sansone - Pre-order your chosen subject 2x2 or 3x5 painting and it will be hand painted before your eyes during a reserved 45-minute time slot between 10am and 1pm. If you can’t wait, you can just pick up. $50 for 2x2, $65 for 3x5

  • Thursday, February 8: Polymer Clay Earring Workshop with Bonnie Ludert, 7-9pm - Learn to make earrings, including mixing colors, cutting, sanding, drilling and attaching earring hardware, and take home two pairs of earrings that ymade. Small class with only six people means lots of help. $80.

  • Sunday, February 11: Valentine’s Cookie Decorating, 2-3pm - In addition to decorating shaped/themed cookies in this one-hour workshop, participants will get royal icing, piping bags, sprinkles and more, so bring a bag to take all your goodies home with you. $40

  • Saturday, February 17: Learn to Make a Chainmail Bracelet, 11am-1pm - Make your own colorful Byzantine weave chainmail bracelet during this workshop. $55

  • Saturday, February 24: Watercolor Pet Portrait Workshop with Alexandra Schmelling, 2-4pm - Color the artist-drawn ink outline to create a portrait of your pet. Paints and brushes to take home are included. $65

  • Saturday, March 16: Create a Glazy Tray/Intro to Resin, 2-4pm - Create your own special planetary-looking tray to hold keys, jewelry or other items. Return the next day to unmold your creation and take it home. $60

  • Thursday, March 21: Candle-Making Workshop, 7-9pm - Learn to make your own candles and take home three that you made. $65  Reserve soon, as the February session of this popular workshop is already sold out!
