Final Summer Art Block ** but ** More Fun to Come!
The Old Town North Alliance (OTNA) held its second Summer Sunday with the Arts, aka “Sunday Art Block” on August 27. This was the final Sunday Art Block event for 2023, but read on for upcoming fall events!
Hundreds of people enjoyed the festivities Sunday afternoon on the closed street; most were local but some were from other parts of the area or visiting from out of town. Mars Rodeo played lots of familiar popular tunes. Local artists made and sold their wares, including a metal worker, photographer, author, jewelry makers, and many more. Glenn Christianson supervised as attendees of all ages cooperated to create a large landscape painting. Children played with chalk and Jenga, and Anila Angjeli of Aline Architecture gave us a taste of an event to come with her fabulous chalk drawings - but more on that later.
Vendors in the adjacent Farmers Market stayed open late to take advantage of the events’ synergy. The market had so many vendors, including a basket-maker and Lost Boy Cider, that it was bursting at the seams.
Many attendees stopped by the NOTICe tent to learn about the civic association, and the OTNA tent to learn about and comment on implementation of the Old Town North Arts and Cultural District. OTNA distributed neighborhood information about proposed developments, new artistic manhole covers, and the Arts Walk project.
Now that summer is over, what’s next? Here are some upcoming fall events:
September 21, 4-8pm: Taste of Old Town North, Montgomery Park; hosted by the Old Town North Community Partnership (OTNCP)
October 21: Chalk Walk, around Canal Center; hosted by OTNA
December 2: Boat Parade festival and viewing, Canal Center; location hosted by OTNA
Mark your calendars and watch this space for more details as the events get closer!
