“Cloud Bar” at AKA Hotel adds sleek sophistication to Old Town North evenings
The 180-room AKA Hotel opened in April and has already generated excitement and enthusiasm in the Old Town North neighborhood. Even before construction was completed, the lobby bar opened and received curious visits from neighbors. The bar is open until 10 pm, and offers special cocktails including all your old favorites, and a small bites menu including savory and sweet items. Its distinguishing feature is the cloud-shaped lighting hovering above the bar area; it provides just the right amount of visual interest and the proper lighting level.
The AKA Alexandria is a chic, modern hotel with a unique and luxurious style. Located at 625 First Street, on the site of the former Holiday Inn, the building has been entirely renovated with a design by Italian architect Piero Lissoni. The lobby’s decor is Japan-inspired, with amusing touches in the portraits gracing the walls. Also on the ground floor are meeting rooms, a 12-seat screening room, and a cafe with outdoor terrace seating. Guestrooms are large and offer a broad range of amenities, including striking tiled bathrooms and luxurious showers. There are also several suites available, ranging in size from 525 to 735 square feet and offering large windows. Guests may use the separate Row House fitness center located on the next block.
The staff is friendly and welcoming. Managing Director Tim Heo and Director of Sales Heidi Kirby are happy to be of assistance.
AKA’s Philadelphia-based parent company, the Korman Company, has two divisions, AKA for luxury hotels and AVE for luxury residential rentals. The company was founded in 1919 by Hyman and Yetta Korman. The fourth generation of Kormans is now working in the family business.
“Old Town Alexandria’s historic downtown, vibrant culinary scene, unique cultural offerings, and independent boutiques are a perfect fit for the AKA portfolio, as we aim to bring the AKA lifestyle to some of the country’s most sought-after cities,” says Larry Korman, CEO of AKA. “The city’s balance of charm, history, and its growing business district all offer opportunities for our guests to immerse themselves in the destination, and we’re excited for Hotel AKA Alexandria to become a part of that and serve as a haven of its own within the Old Town North community.”
As the hotel adds the finishing touches to its lobby lounge, zen garden, and fitness center, they are pleased to offer its very first guests up to 25% off their stay plus complimentary welcome amenities, waived destination fee, Wifi, and preferred parking rates through July 31, 2023..
