Art League Extends Montgomery Center Lease, Applies for New Space
The Art League announced that it has reached an agreement to extend its lease on its current Montgomery Center space until June 30, 2024. The lease extension means that the Art League class curricula for Summer and Fall 2023, and Winter and Spring 2024 will continue uninterrupted.
The League has also applied to the City of Alexandria for a Special Use Permit (SUP) to operate a commercial school in property located at 800 Slaters Lane. The application is currently under review by the City’s Planning and Zoning Department, and is scheduled for public hearings and decisions by the Planning Commission and City Council in September.
The Slaters Lane property is a warehouse that formerly housed a print shop. It meets the League’s requirements for space, heavy equipment, and opportunities for instructional classrooms. If the SUP is approved and the lease successfully negotiated, the League will request community support for the buildout of the space and the relocation of its school.
We wish the Art League much success in relocating to its new location adjacent to Old Town North, and hope for a smooth SUP process.
