The Alexandria Symphony Orchestra is based in Old Town North and is a member of the Old Town North Alliance. We are delighted to see ASO back to in-person concerts at its traditional performance spaces.

Saturdays at 7:30pm at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall & Arts Center

Sundays at 3:00pm at the George Washington Masonic Memorial

 Beethoven’s Ninth

 October 2, 7:30pm & October 3, 3:00pm

Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 featuring the Alexandria Choral Society with a new English text by poet laureate and Pulitzer prize-winner Tracy K. Smith. Soloists are featured courtesy of the Coalition for African Americans in the Performing Arts.

Pictures at an Exhibition

November 6 at 6:00pm & November 7 at 3:00pm

In partnership with the Alexandria Film Festival, the ASO presents Homegrown: American Stories in Music and Film. The concert incorporates music from the Americana tradition with original film shorts, including Copland’s Our Town and John Henry, Griffes’ Clouds and William Grant Still’s Manhattan Skyline. The program culminates with Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition.

 

Home for the Holidays

December 17, at 7:30pm & December 19, at 3:00pm

ASO brings you favorites from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker and well-loved choruses from Handel’s Messiah with the Alexandria Choral Society and dancers from BalletNOVA. Sing along with holiday carols, and prepare for some surprises.

Rachmaninov Rhapsody

February 12 at 7:30pm & February 13 at 3:00pm

Pianist Sara Daneshpour headlines with Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. Also Sibelius’, Finlandia and the ASO Strings take center stage with a full orchestra version of Beethoven’s last string quartet.

Barber & Brahms

April 23, 7:30pm & April 24, 3:00pm

Violinist Dylana Jenson sparks joy with her rendition of Barber’s Violin Concerto. ASO presents Brahms’ First Symphony and Brian Prechtl’s Tribute featuring students from Sympatico commissioned by Classical Movements’ Eric Helms New Music Program.
